The north of Brazil covers over 45% of the surface of the country. It accommodates most of the largest rainforest of the world - the Amazon. It has the lowest number of inhabitants, although there are many indigenous tribes that still live here.

This whole area is fairly unindustrialised and undeveloped. The only developed place is Manaus, which has a tax-free industrial zone.
