Manaus is located right in the heart of the Amazon Basin.

It has become a very popular tourist destination. Visitors from all over the world come here looking for excursions into the exotic and heartland of the Amazon.

Not only is this a great starting point for travelling further into the rainforest but from here you'll also get a chance to see some of the world's largest sea-going ships come to port over one thousand miles inland. It's a very impressive sight; the ships are absolutely massive. Goods are loaded and unloaded here then taken off to places further inside the Amazon.

Manaus was once one of the greatest wilderness outposts in the world. Nowadays, as a result of over construction, it can no longer claim this title, but it's still a fascinating place - well worth a visit!
