This is the wealthiest region of Brazil. It has the highest standard of living in the country. Large numbers of European immigrants have settled here (mainly of German, Italian, and Slavic). You can see clear influences from these cultures here.

The south is also the coldest region of Brazil. You'll occasionally see frost here and snow in some of the higher altitude regions.
