Brasilia replaced Rio as the country's capital city in 1960. It's a new city that was built in the 1950's.
Initially it was intended as the administrative capital of Brazil, a function it serves well to this day. Unfortunately though, it's become sprawling mass of modern building design. As such a new city, Brasilia, also lacks any real claim to heritage.
Having said that, Brasilia, is still definitely worth a visit. Today, the city is noted for its broad thoroughfares, wide boulevards as well as many business, cultural, and recreational districts. It is, after all the capital of the Brazil!
